The Gill Family

Mrs Gill ‘Gug’

Jane Gill is the head of The Gill family at Kings Oak. An expert in the care of horses and ponies who still has an active daily role in the running of the yard.

‘Gug’ has been in horses all her life, first guiding her family through their horse careers and then continued to advise and guide all Kings Oak clients and liveries, for many years, some up to well respected B.H.S.A.I.

She symbolises what a true horse woman is.

Greg Gill

Greg Gill started riding at the age of seven at a local riding school. She had her  first pony at nine years old. She started competing on JA’s at eleven years old, traveling to all county shows and Hickstead.

In the 1970s, Greg started competing on four 4yr old ponies, taking them all to JAs in one year.

She won the Junior Championship of Great Britain and has won countless style prizes. She competed and won at Horse of the Year Show, The Royal International Horse Show and Olympia. She also won European Pony Team Gold, individual and Nations Cup and obtained FEI International License at 16 years.

Greg has competed abroad representing UK on numerous occasions and has jumped Internationally at Hickstead with countless wins in the main ring, competing in Speed Derbys, Derbys, Area International Trial and Queen Elizabeth Cup. Greg retired from competition in 1990 and turned to her greatest love; teaching children and young adults about the passion of Show-Jumping. Greg has recently joined the panel as a BS Judge.

Emma Gill

Emma Gill was born in the saddle and has a natural empathy with horses. Emma has been competing all her life from 12.2hh ponies to current horses.

She has competed up to National Level, specialising in producing young horses having ridden for owners in Germany and also riding for clients wishing to sell on or produce their own horses. Emma is now competing on a Balou de Rouet Grade C which is showing outstanding talent making him a very exciting prospect.

Emma has completed her B.H.S exams and encouraging all around her to do the same, she is also a UKCC Level 2 Coach. Emma is on hand (as are all the Gill family) 24hrs a day, with a caring hard working attitude which, along with her mother Greg and grandmother Mrs Gill, makes Kings Oak the unique place it is to be, whether as a livery yard or riding school establishment. Emma has recently joined the panel as a BS Judge.

Susie Gill

Susie Gill is the youngest sister of the Gill family and has been involved in the running of the business since its inception. Her riding career commenced early and continues today with her horse Dougal, who was born at Kings Oak 18 years ago and can be seen on the yard. Over the years she has enjoyed competing in a number of equestrian disciplines such as show-jumping, eventing and dressage at many levels, winning the Freshmans Championship at Hickstead and competing at the Horse of the Year Show on a number of occasions.

Following a two year stint working in the Equine Hospital at the Royal Veterinary College, Susie decided the warmth of an office was more appealing and as such has worked for an international computer company for the last 13 years; she now lives nearby, with her partner Richard, son Adam, and Richard’s daughter Bethan, who is fast becoming another horse fanatic. However, she remains first and foremost, a horse lover and a part of the Kings Oak family.
